Ensure your oven or device is preheated to the desired temperature before placing your cannabis inside. If possible, use an oven thermometer to check the accuracy of your oven’s temperature settings. 

Choosing the decarboxylation method

Oven decarboxylation is the simplest way to decarb cannabis at home. If you choose this as your preferred method, let’s go over the step-by-step guide for oven decarboxylation:

  1. Preheat your oven to 220°F to 245°F (104°C to 118°C).

Sous-vide decarboxylation

  1. Place the ground or broken-down cannabis in a vacuum-sealed bag or heat-safe pouch.

  4. Submerge the sealed bag in the water bath and let it sit for 1 to 2 hours.

Pros include precision and ease, while cons may include cost and limited versatility compared to traditional methods.

Monitoring temperature and time are critical factors. They determine the extent to which THCA is converted into TCH and CBDA into CBD, respectively. Maintaining the correct temperature within the specified range for the appropriate duration ensures maximum cannabinoid activation without degradation.

For decarboxylation completion, the cannabis plant material may undergo a slight color change. They usually turn slightly darker or more golden, indicating the conversion process.
